Agadir is much more than just a beach destination. It is the perfect base camp for some of the most dramatic road trips in North Africa. Within a 3-hour drive, you can transition from high-altitude Atlas peaks to the rolling red dunes of the Sahara's edge.
1. Paradise Valley (the Atlas oasis)
Just 45 minutes inland from Agadir, the Honey Road leads you to Paradise Valley — a collection of natural turquoise pools surrounded by palm trees and mountains. Recommended car: any compact, but a Stepway offers better clearance for the final parking lot.
2. Legzira Beach (the red arches)
Heading south for about 2.5 hours brings you to Legzira, famous for its massive natural red stone arches carved by the Atlantic. The drive along the N1 is stunning. Recommended car: Dacia Duster for a comfortable cruise.
3. Tifnit fishing village
A hidden gem 40 minutes south. Tifnit is a tiny troglodyte fishing village where the desert meets the sea. Perfect for a fresh grilled fish lunch. Recommended car: economy or SUV.
4. Taghazout & Taourirt
Twenty minutes north of Agadir. Surf town vibes, sunset cliffs, argan groves. Pair with a stop at Anchor Point. Recommended car: any car — the road is fully paved.
5. Essaouira (the windy fortress)
Roughly 3 hours up the Atlantic coast. Walled medina, fresh sardines, gnaoua music. Best done as an overnight. Recommended car: Renault Clio Auto for highway comfort.
6. Immouzer Ida-Ou-Tanane (the waterfalls)
An hour-and-a-half ascent through argan forests to a 60-metre waterfall and Berber market. Recommended car: Stepway or Duster — twisty road with switchbacks.
7. Aglou Plage
Two hours south. Long empty beach favored by Moroccan families and surfers. Sunset is spectacular. Recommended car: any.
